Managing Complexity within Replication

Products > Realtime Data Integration > Managing Complexity

Lots of tables in lots of databases? Each with different replication requirements? Sometimes different tables need to be replicated in different directions? These are all typical replication challenges that occur in industries like Retail (between stores), Logistics (stock management) and Maritime (between ships). And any solution must not only address the functional complexity; it must also scale for lots of big databases and use the WAN efficiently. HVR is a unique solution for these difficult problems.

Applying HVR to Real World Complexity

  • HVR avoids a one-size-fits-all mentality which assumes each replication problem is identical. For example collision handling (for bi-directional replication) is vital in some situations but for most customers it is irrelevant and just costs I/O. Instead HVR provides just basic replication by default and allows users to select from a toolkit of special features.
  • With HVR you do not just get a promise of unlimited customization which really just means customers must code their own replication with millions of lines of SQL. Most HVR features are 'declarative' so they can be enabled with a click on the whole database or just a single table A few advanced features allow SQL to be injected into replication, but in a way that avoids an SQL code explosion.
  • HVR does not force business problems into a mathematical construction such as a Consistent Distributed Data Set (CDDS) which are theoretically "complete" but don't map well to solving real-world problems. HVR instead provides equivalent features, but structured in a more practical way.

Managing Complexity

HVR's offers a toolkit of elegant and powerful features. These are grouped into actions, for example for collision handling, special scheduling requirements or encryption. But if a particular feature isn't needed then the action need never be selected. Another benefit of HVR is performance and robustness; HVR works efficiently and can scale to replicate high transaction rates between lots of databases containing many big tables.

Discuss your Data Integration design with an Expert

To really see the benefit of HVR you need to understand how it could be applied to your problem. This can be achieved during a conversation with an HVR replication architect, who can talk you through the specific challenges in your situation. For a free consult, email info@hvr-software.com.
