How To:  Steps to change the database user’s password for the HVR Hub repository

    Scenario

Database passwords generally need to be changed periodically due to corporate security policies. HVR stores database user’s password in the HVR repository for both connections to database locations, as well as to the HVR repository itself. When the user’s password is reset, there are procedures that need to be followed to properly reset the hub and restore replication services.

    Overview

When changing the database user’s password, you need to restart the various processes which use those connection details to authenticate the user. This includes changing the user’s password to the Hub repository, changes to locations, recreating the Hub Scheduler service, and restarting scheduled jobs.

    Steps

    The following are steps for:

    1. Change the password to the hub repository database
    2. Change the password to the database location

Here are the procedural steps when changing the user’s password to the Hub repository:

    1. Launch the HVR Console
    2. Connect to the Hub
    3. Suspend all scheduled jobs
      1. Right click on Scheduler
      2. Select All Jobs in System
      3. Select Suspend
    4. For Hubs on Windows only: Destroy the Scheduler Service
      1. Right click on Scheduler
      2. Select Properties
      3. Select Stop to stop the scheduler service
      4. Select Destroy to remove the Windows Scheduler service
      5. Click Close
    5. Disconnect from the Hub
    6. Change the user’s password in Hub repository database
    7. Launch the HVR Console
    8. Connect to the Hub
      1. The user is prompted with a dialog to change the password
    9. For Hubs on Windows only: Recreate the Scheduler Service
      1. Right click on Scheduler
      2. Select Properties
      3. Select Create to add the Windows Scheduler service
    10. Start all scheduled jobs as needed

Here are the procedural steps when changing the user’s password for a database location:

    1. Launch the HVR Console
    2. Connect to the Hub
    3. Change the user’s password in the database
    4. Edit the user’s password for the database location
      1. Test the connection
    5. Suspend all scheduled jobs
    6. Reload the hub
    7. Initialize any channel definition using that database location
      1. Select the location which had the password reset and select only “Scripts and Jobs” from the Advanced Options tab
    8. Start all scheduled jobs as needed
